The number of projects present in the crypto world \u2014 most of which are powered by blockchain technology \u2014 is increasing rapidly each year.<\/p>\n

At the time of the writing of this post,\u00a0there are\u00a02447<\/em>\u00a0cryptocurrencies listed<\/strong>\u00a0on CoinMarketCap, many of these being projects that have \u2014 at one point \u2014 been discussed as being the \u201ckiller app\u201d for blockchain.<\/p>\n

Seriously,\u00a0the obsession is real.<\/a><\/p>\n

For some perspective, consider that\u00a0last year, on October 15th<\/strong>,\u00a0there were only 1600 projects listed<\/a>\u00a0on CMC.<\/p>\n

From Bitcoin to\u00a0<\/em>Brave<\/em><\/a>, from cross-border payments to online gambling,<\/em>\u00a0the beautiful truth is that blockchain technology can potentially be leveraged in an endless number of ways.<\/p>\n

However, while the number of crypto projects has significantly increased, one of the biggest questions in the crypto world (arguably) remains unanswered, depending on who you talk to:<\/p>\n

Where\u2019s the Killer Blockchain App?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Or, in other words:<\/em><\/p>\n

Which blockchain app is going to usher in the mass adoption of crypto?<\/em><\/p>\n

In this post<\/strong>, we\u2019re going to throw AR\u2019s name into the hat.<\/p>\n

Could Augmented Reality (AR) be blockchain\u2019s Killer App?<\/h2>\n

The short answer is:\u00a0possibly!<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is a huge amount of potential to leverage blockchain to unleash the power of Augmented Reality (AR).<\/p>\n

And this goes way beyond gaming.<\/p>\n

Despite how much potential we see for AR and gaming.<\/em><\/p>\n

BofA Merrill Lynch<\/strong>\u00a0refers to the rise of AR, VR and mixed reality as \u201cthe fourth computing revolution<\/a>\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n

But, we must distinguish AR from VR here.<\/strong><\/p>\n

While\u00a0Virtual Reality<\/em>\u00a0enables one to experience a different world altogether, it is widely believed that\u00a0Augmented Reality<\/em>\u00a0has more immediate applicability\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026and this is due to the fact that AR adds digital overlays onto the real world!<\/p>\n

But, why is this so important to distinguish?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Here we\u2019re going to answer a question with another question \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Remember Google Glass?<\/em><\/p>\n

The AR glasses developed by Google\u00a0essentially flopped \u2014\u00a0<\/em>when it came to consumer usage \u2014\u00a0after numerous concerns were raised about the ability for people to potentially record without anyone knowing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But, was that the end of Google Glass?<\/em><\/p>\n

Technically, no.<\/p>\n

Did you know that the tech giant\u00a0turned the failure of Google Glass for consumers into a pretty useful Google Enterprise<\/a>?<\/p>\n

The Google Glass pivot alone is pretty decent proof of the potential for AR beyond gaming,<\/strong>\u00a0with employees reporting more enjoyable work experiences and companies relaying evidence of more efficient operations after the implementation of Google Enterprise.<\/p>\n

Beyond this, Augmented Reality has many, many more use cases.<\/em><\/p>\n

From transforming shopping experiences in retail \u2014 a solution already being implemented by stores which we discuss\u00a0here<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 to enhancing doctors\u2019 capabilities in the operating room\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026from enhancing fan experiences at sporting events\u2026<\/p>\n

(((\u00a0for any NFL fans<\/em>,\u00a0congratulations<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0that yellow first down marker<\/em>\u00a0you\u2019ve been seeing on you\u2019re TV means you\u2019ve already experienced AR essentially )))<\/p>\n
